His work celebrates nature in an accessible and engaging way, encouraging a closer connection to the birds and environments that surround us.

His illustration work spans books, prints, and creative collaborations, earning a wide following for its expressive lines and vivid yet minimal compositions. Birds are at the heart of his practice, and his keen observation and affection for them shines through in every piece—whether depicting familiar garden visitors or more unusual species from further afield.

Alongside his studio work, Matt has created large-scale murals that bring his signature aesthetic into public spaces, often inspired by nature and designed to spark curiosity and joy in everyday environments. These works extend his fascination with wildlife into bold, immersive formats that connect communities with the natural world.

In addition to his visual practice, Matt is also a musician, performing as Sewell & The Gong with Chris Tate and also the deep-cut compiler of the A Crushing Glow Compilation series. These musical project mirrors the same sense of exploration and creativity found in his artwork. Together, his illustration, murals, and music form a rich, multifaceted practice rooted in observation, imagination, and a genuine whole-hearted love for nature.
